Growth Models for Unthinned Stands of Sitka Spruce in Northern Ireland

D. J. KILPATRICK

Biometrics Division, Department of Agriculture Newforge LaneBelfast BT9 5PX, N. Ireland

A model for the net basal area growth of unthinned Sitka spruce is presented in this paper. Additional models express volume and number of stems as functions of basal area. All models are found to provide satisfactory fits to the data. It is shown how such models may be used in the narrow sense of generating yield tables but in fact possess several advantages over traditional yield tables.
