Quantock Forest: an Example of Multiple Land Use
Forestry Commission
The south-western peninsula of the British Isles has many square miles of underproductive upland. It enjoys a mild climate with a moderately heavy rainfall. This paper considers an area that is separate from but similar to the main block of Exmoor, and discusses some of the pressures that are exerted from the many sides of forestry, agriculture, water catchment, preservation, recreation, and has regard to increased leisure and the growing mobility of the population living in the industrial areas.
