PRELIMINARY LIGHT-INTENSITY STUDY UNDER SESSILE AND PEDUNCULATE OAK

W. A. FAIRBAIRN

Department of Forestry, University of Edinburgh

While study by continental and American workers has continued over a considerable period, little has been published in connexion with forestry. A method is described using photoelectric cell photometers and the results given of measurements made under comparable stands of sessile and pedunculate oak (Quercus petraea Liebe and Q. robur L.). These results confirm that sessile oak casts more shade than pedunculate oak.
