RESTOCKING DERELICT WOODLANDS: A SCOTTISH EXAMPLE

M. J. PENISTAN

Forestry Commission

The prescriptions drawn up for the restocking of an area of lowland scrub forest in Ayrshire by saving the useful regrowth and by partial planting are given and the work actually carried out is described. Costs are compared with adjacent clear felling and replanting, and the possibility of the extension of the method to other similar areas is considered.

Received 1 August 1950.
